Heel Pain Causes and Treatments

I’m going to talk for a while today about some typical causes of foot soreness. Heel pain is one of the more prevalent situations seen in medical practices. The location of the pain is doubtlessly one of the more significant things. Pain under the foot is frequently caused by a condition called plantar fasciitis. In children, one of the more common causes of heel problems is a condition called calcaneal apophysitis, also called Sever’s disease. This is a condition in which inflammation and excess tension affect the growth plate.Obesity, overuse, or too much sports activity can cause this issue. Improper footwears also a primary cause of Sever’s disease in children.

A typical cause of pain at the back of the heel is Achilles tendinitis, frequently caused by failure by persons who have a tight Achilles tendon to stretch when exercising. T

Also, there is a condition called a Haglund’s deformity, less formally called a ‘pump bump’, which is a large proliferation of bone in the back of the heel, most common in females due to ill-fitting high heeled footwear. Soft tissue near the bulge can become quite painful due to inflammation. If you’re currently experiencing heel pain, there’s no reason to suffer. Check with your podiatrist. There are so many things that can be done, either conservatively with footwear adjustments, physiotherapy, custom-made orthotics, arch supports, custom-made orthotics, and if all else fails, surgery.

Plantar Fasciitis is a common foot issue resulting in pain at the heel. The Plantar Fascia or arch tendon is a broad, thick area of tissue that extends from near the heel to the toes of the foot. Discomfort is often felt near the front and inside of the heel, and may extend further towards the arch area. It is typically most painful upon rising as the plantar fascia stiffens up during sleep. After moving around for a while it relaxes a little and the pain may diminish, to increase again towards the evening. Reasons for Plantar Fasciitis can include foot overpronation, overuse, and tight muscles in the lower leg. Conservative treatment may include rest and ice therapy to reduce pain and inflammation. Orthotic inserts may be appropriate to fix any biomechanical problems present. Stretching can be very helpful, and a night splint is frequently effective. There is a precise taping technique that can be very helpful in providing support to the arch as it heals. Massage can reduce tension in the area and thereby provide some relief. Should these options not be successful, a physician can prescribe a corticosteroid injection. As a last resort, surgery can be considered.
